Welcoming a New Superintendent
Hi there! As we look back on this past year in LA Unified, there is a lot to be proud of—from celebrating academic progress, to expanding opportunities inside and outside the classroom, and investing in the people and programs that make our schools successful. Together, we continued the important work of helping every student learn, grow, and thrive. We’ve advanced new policies to limit screen time in classrooms, invested in modern, sustainable learning environments–especially as we rebuild our schools damaged in last year’s wildfires, expanded access to early education, reached historic labor agreements, and more, while navigating new challenges, and opportunities, facing public education. Throughout it all, our students, families, and staff showed the resilience, creativity, and determination that define LA Unified. The progress highlighted in this report reflects the collective impact of an entire community working toward a shared vision for our schools. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I’m honored to continue moving that vision forward—together.

By the Numbers
Welcoming a New Superintendent
In June, the Board unanimously approved a contract appointing Andrés Chait as Superintendent of Los Angeles Unified. At a time when our school communities need steady, experienced leadership, Superintendent Chait has demonstrated that he is the right person to lead this District forward. Over the past several years, I have had the good fortune to work with Mr. Chait, including as he led the implementation of the District’s cell phone ban and its emergency response to the Palisades Fire. In recent months we have seen him step up to guide LA Unified through a challenging transition period—negotiating contracts and difficult budget conversations—with professionalism, equanimity, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to our school communities. He brings a deep understanding of this District, having served in a variety of roles throughout his career. He understands our schools not only as an educator and administrator, but also as a former student and current parent of LA Unified schools. I am confident that Superintendent Chait will build on that work while providing stability, continuity, and a clear path forward.

Using Technology with Intention
Technology can be a powerful tool for learning, but it must be used thoughtfully and responsibly. This year, we took significant steps to ensure that technology supports student learning, wellbeing, and healthy development while minimizing unnecessary distractions and excessive screen time in our classrooms.
Accelerating Academic Achievement
As LAUSD continues to drive academic progress and accelerate post-pandemic recovery, students are making remarkable gains in the classroom. Through targeted academic investments, expanded learning opportunities, and a relentless focus on student success, our schools are demonstrating that progress is possible when students receive the support they need to thrive.
Modernizing Learning Environments
Following the historic $9 billion facilities bond passed by voters last year, LAUSD continues to invest in school facilities, sustainability initiatives, and long-term infrastructure improvements that will benefit students and communities for generations to come.
Supporting School Communities
Supportive learning environments allow our kids to learn and thrive—both in and outside of the classroom. This year, we continued investing in the people and programs that foster student success, while creating more opportunities for students, families, staff, and partners to help shape our vision for the future.
Rebuilding and Recovering Together
One year after the devastating Palisades Fire, recovery efforts continue to move forward with an unwavering commitment to supporting the affected students, families, and school communities. As we repair and rebuild the three damaged campuses, significant milestones were reached this year as students began returning home and plans for the future took shape.
